During the FIFA World Cup, sports betting companies, such as Entain, experienced a significant increase in traffic and revenue. It is a crucial time for these companies as they look to take advantage of the increased interest in betting.
To ensure that everything runs smoothly, the Syntropy team worked behind the scenes to ensure that customer networks were able to withstand the heavy traffic load. By utilizing our technology and internal network of relays, we were able to provide congestion-free and reliable network traffic for Entain's mission-critical network application.
Before jumping into our findings, let’s understand how companies are using Syntropy to improve their network performance.
Our most powerful use case to date
Syntropy's technology is designed to improve enterprise network resiliency by addressing the inefficiencies of the public Internet. Traditional routing methods, such as BGP, can be slow and inefficient, relying on static routes that do not adapt to changing network conditions rapidly enough.
To address these issues, Syntropy has developed Syntropy Stack that leverages a proprietary version of our Distributed Autonomous Routing Protocol that enables flexible management and dynamic routing of network traffic. This is achieved through the use of software to control and manage networking hardware, allowing for real-time routing decisions based on network conditions. As a result, Syntropy Stack delivers faster and more reliable connectivity for enterprise networks.

A lack of intelligence in data routing can impact network resiliency and result in a sub-optimal user experience. Many routing decisions are made based on cost optimization for Internet service providers, rather than considering the needs of the user, or network efficiency in general. Syntropy not only removes these limitations but also ensures security and optimization by default. As a result, our customer networks are able to be more agile and responsive to the constantly changing business environment.
Packet loss is another common concern for customer networks, as it can lead to disrupted Internet connectivity and a poor user experience. It occurs when data packets do not reach their intended destination, resulting in lost or incomplete data. This can have a negative impact on network performance and user experience, particularly in mission-critical applications. Also, it’s especially important in environments with multiple data centers and cloud vendors, as it minimizes exposure to risk. Syntropy Stack has the capability to greatly reduce packet loss round-trip times by default, improving network reliability for our customers.
Overall, Syntropy provides a comprehensive solution for improving our customer network performance and resiliency. By addressing inefficiencies in the public Internet, improving data routing intelligence, and reducing packet loss, Syntropy helps ensure that our customer networks are able to function effectively and deliver a high-quality service.
Beauty lies in the numbers
During 30 days of the FIFA World Cup, Syntropy Network was able to save a median of 7.13% in latency. While it doesn’t sound like much at first hand, combining traffic together over the length of the tournament resulted in 269,160 hours (or more than 30 years) worth of communication time saved. This dynamic improvement had a cumulative effect in supporting Entain’s mission-critical network running smoothly throughout the tournament.
In addition to saving time, Syntropy Network also helped to improve the reliability of the communication. During the duration of the championship, more than 120 billion packets were sent through the Syntropy Network, with our technology saving up to 43 million of them. The average packet loss across all connections was also reduced from 0.0182% to 0.0056%, effectively minimizing the packet loss by over three times.
In terms of total throughput, 39.8 TB was sent through the Syntropy Network, compared to 62.3 TB through the public Internet. This equates to almost 39% of all total traffic utilizing Syntropy’s internal data relaying network to optimize the Internet paths. Combined with the fact that 43% of the time traffic was being relayed through the Syntropy Network, this leads to incredibly successful results.

Some of the nodes utilized were provided by our partner, PCCW Global, through their internal infrastructure. These nodes will also be utilized in the Open Bandwidth Exchange, a platform that allows for the buying and selling of bandwidth in a tokenized manner.
Final thoughts
Syntropy’s technology played an important role in the success of Entain's operations during the FIFA World Cup. In today's digital age, efficient and reliable networks are more important than ever, and Syntropy Stack proved to be valuable in ensuring successful operations for Entain.
These results are incredibly encouraging for the Syntropy team and we look forward to continuing further development of our Distributed Autonomous Routing Protocol. DARP will enable the possibility to scale our relay network to tens of thousands of nodes. Leveraging distributed ledger technology to enable and incentivize community nodes, together with the Web3 community we envision DARP running across every network in the world.
